Marshland High School

The Design Technology team put pupils first and work very hard to help all pupils succeed. We believe in encouraging pupils to become independent learners who are able to think through problem solving tasks. Our curriculum integrates the use of ICT skills along with Literacy and Numeracy skills. We offer additional support through online platforms at KS3 and KS4 via Google Classrooms.

Key Stage 3

We operate a 'circus' system in which groups move between Resistant Materials, Food, and Graphics based projects.

Year 7

Projects covered: Steady Hand Game, Graphic drawing and presentation skills, the science of cooking and food miles.

Year 8

Projects covered: Acrylic Clock project, concept product project, Food commodities and adapting recipes.

Year 9

Projects covered: Gadget Tidy, Graphic influence by design, Food provenance and customer awareness.

Key Stage 4

We work to the AQA specifications for 3D Design where we will work creatively with a range of different media. The projects offered each year will allow the students to build their confidence in all materials, they will develop the students ability to problem solve, analyse the work of others, complete research tasks and work to a design brief.  The course is 60% coursework and 40% exam based, final grades will be awarded from two major projects completed in year 10 and 11.  To be successful in this subject students must learn to be self-sufficient and motivated; they must be keen to experiment with new ideas and develop possibilities rather than having a mind-set that fixates on one solution.
