Marshland High School

Safeguarding

At Marshland High School we work hard to ensure that there is a safe environment in which students feel secure, are able to talk, and that they feel listened to.  All staff and governors at Marshland High School are trained in Safeguarding using the Norfolk County Council training programme.  Our safeguarding policy can be found on the  website under policies, along with other policies relating to the care and safety of students, staff and visitors.

What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding covers all aspects of keeping children safe and we promote the welfare of children by:

  • protecting children from maltreatment;
  • preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development;
  • ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care;
  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

As a school there are set government guidelines which we have to adhere to regarding the safeguarding of our children. Some of these are listed below:

We also expect all staff and visitors to treat each other with respect and to behave professionally.

All staff are required to wear their staff lanyards at all times. All Visitors and Volunteers are always required to sign in and out and wear a visitor badge whilst on school grounds.

Operation Encompass

Encompass has been set up to help school provide support to children who have been present at incidents of domestic violence.

Marshland High School will be taking part in this jointly run operation with Norfolk County Council and Norfolk Police.

The school will receive a confidential email from the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub before 9am on the morning after any domestic incident where a child at our school had been involved, present or witnessed.

The information is given to the school's Key Adults who are:

  • Mr Crawley

they will then enable support to be given dependent on the needs and wishes of the child.

We are keen to offer the best support possible to our pupils and we believe this is going to be extremely beneficial to all those involved.

Internet Safety

Do you ever feel that your children know more about online technologies than you do? You're not alone. The Internet and online technologies are an important part of children’s lives at home and school, providing great opportunities for learning, communicating, playing and creating.

As we know, these technologies create huge opportunities for us all; however, they can sometimes be a bit overwhelming, and present challenges to keeping your family safe online.

The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) is the UK’s national centre dedicated to protecting children from harm both online and offline. CEOP’s Thinkuknow education initiative aims to empower children and young people to enjoy online technologies safely.

CEOP have released the 'Parents' and Carers' Guide to Cyber Security' ‐ a short, video looking at how to become more Cyber Aware.

To further safeguard pupils, mobile phones and electronic devices are not permitted to be brought into school by pupils as they allow for unfiltered access to the internet.  Further information can be seen in the Mobile Electronic Devices policy.
